First marteloscope in Slovenia

During the third week of October 2015, the Integrate + team established its first Marteloscope in Slovenia. This was done in close collaboration with local partners namely the University of Ljubljana, Department of Forestry and Renewable Forest Resources, and the local forest owner, the Pahernik Foundation, represented by its President of the Board, Maks Sušek.

Pahernik forest covers an area of around 550 ha. It consists mainly of beech-fir forests and constitutes an illustrative example of forests being managed according to close to nature management principles. The forest is linked to ProSilva Europe and thus frequently visited in the course of professional excursions by both Slovenian and foreign professionals from research and practice. Pahernik forest has also high value for educational institutions and is a prime destination for student field trips.

On the 1 ha Marteloscope data has been collected for each tree including their location, species, dbh, height and volume. Further, detailed information was assessed on economic values and tree microhabitats. The Marteloscope can be used to perform virtual tree selection exercise. Assisted by a tablet software package developed by Integrate+ discussions on the results can take place right after the exercise in the stand.
