First Integrate+ Marteloscopes established

The centrepiece of the Integrate+ project is the Marteloscope (M-scope)

The first M-scope was established at ‘Steinkreuz’ in the Ebrach State Forest Enterprise in the Steigerwald region in North-West Bavaria. This M-scope serves as a pilot for testing all further developments. A second M-scope was established during May at ‘Sägbrunn’ near the new Steigerwald visitor centre. Here, the M-scope can easily be presented to wider publicity in the future.

The Steigerwald region is considered as one of the most important beech forests in Germany in terms of the conservation of forest dwelling species. Ebrach State Forest Enterprise runs a sophisticated biodiversity concept within its integrative forest management approach, focussing on the connection of biotopes via so-called stepping stones. It was introduced in the publication ‘Integrative approaches as an opportunity for the conservation of forest biodiversity'.
